Consul Welcome Message
My name is Wes Mason, and I will be serving as the Consul of the Beta Phi chapter of Sigma Chi for the 2022-2023 academic year. I am from Scottsdale, Arizona, and I am a Junior at the University of Arizona majoring in Physiology and Medical Sciences through the College of Medicine. Outside of Sigma Chi, I am involved in the Physiology club and enjoy working with members of the community through community service.
This past year I served as our chapter’s Risk Manager. During my term, along with keeping the safety of the house as my top priority, I focused on evolving the role of Risk Manager to other areas outside of safety. One focus was to grow the relationship between Sigma Chi and the University of Arizona Police Department.
Our Chapter’s new Executive Board brings a group of experienced, dedicated, and driven Sigma Chi Brothers. We have seven new brothers serving on our board and five returning officers. These new officers are eager for the opportunity and filled with innovative ideas to bring to our chapter. The dynamic between the experience and wisdom of our returning officers, along with our new officers will make this year especially successful.
My primary goals this year included increasing our chapter’s standings, fostering communication between all outlets of the chapter, including the university, parents, and alumni. Lastly, maximizing the effects of each leadership role and increasing community outreach to impact our community and Sigma Chi as a whole. To briefly recap some areas of success that our chapter achieved this past year; while we continued to navigate through the challenges of Covid, we were able to donate $55,000 to the Huntsman Cancer Institute and had an amazing celebration of the 100-year anniversary of the Beta Phi chapter. We initiated 28 new brothers in the fall semester, and 14 this spring. Our initiations were very successful, and we received a near perfect ritual recertification. We were also awarded the honor of a Chapter of Excellence from Fraternity Sorority Programs which is the highest honor for a fraternity. Additionally, we made it a priority to improve our Scholarship Chair and Alumni Relations positions which has resulted in increased academic success of our brothers and increased outreach to our Alumni.
Words cannot express how honored I am to serve as the Consul of such an amazing group of men locally, nationally, and internationally. Sigma Chi is an incredible organization and has had a strong impact on my life, and I look forward to the opportunity to give back as much as I can. Please reach out to me with any suggestions, comments, or concerns as I would love to be of assistance. You can reach me at 602-327-3163 or Consul@arizonasigmachi.org. Thank you, and I am looking forward to all that this coming year will bring! In Hoc Signo Vinces, Wes Mason ‘24
