John Henkel Scholarship Created

Ellis Family Foundation (Robert Ellis Beta Phi ‘84) has established a scholarship in memory of brother John Henkel ‘84. The scholarship was created to fund the annual chapter dues for two brothers/prospective brothers annually. The two recipients will be selected by the Beta Phi Chapter brothers.

John Henkel was a native Tucsonan and graduate of Sabino High School where he was an exemplary student and athlete. At the University of Arizona, John was actively involved with Beta Phi while also a member of many U of A honoraries. Following graduation, John pursued a career with a Big 8 accounting firm, but quickly realized his entrepreneurial instincts and moved to Chicago to trade options on the CBOE. John found great success being an option trader and was able to “retire” at the ripe old age of 38. John was a wonderful friend and brother who was admired for his great intellect and gregarious personality. John always enjoyed impassioned conversations about most everything, especially politics. John is survived by his wife Stephanie, and three children. He is dearly missed by many.
