Brother Andrew "Andy" Thompson '62 Enters Chapter Eternal
Andy Thompson passed away peacefully on June 7, 2022, at the age of 83. Andy is survived by his wife of 61 years, Linda Melczer Thompson, his children, Beverly (Edward) Reading, Kathy (Mark) Dombrowski, and his grandchildren, Brooke (Evan) Dahn, Drew (Ilyssa) Reading, Ryan Reading, Michelle Reading, Cole Dombrowski, Brynn Dombrowski, and his precious great grandchildren, Kate, Oliver, and Dallas. He is preceded in death by his parents, Andrew Claude Thompson and Frances Eleanor Sexton Thompson, and his sister Claudelle Frances Bailey L'Ecuyer.
Brother Thompson was born on December 16, 1938, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and came to Phoenix, Arizona with his family in 1952. He graduated from Phoenix North High School in 1956 and earned his bachelor's degree from The University of Arizona (Go Wildcats!).
Andy ("Bopa", "Handy Andy", "Dad") had a generous laugh, a kind smile, and was loved by all that knew him. He could fix anything with duct tape, shoe goo and good old-fashioned ingenuity. His South Dakota roots kept him grounded and humble, while his 70 years in Arizona unlocked his love for the great outdoors. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, boating, and playing golf, but his greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends. Everyone will forever remember him in a stylish 'Reyn Spooner', a glass of wine in hand and sharing an unforgettable story.
There will be a private family funeral service held at All Saints' Episcopal Church officiated by his sister-in-law, The Reverend Sally Monastiere. All are welcome to attend an open house on Friday, June 17th, which will be held from 3 PM – 6 PM at 8329 N. 82nd Place, Scottsdale, AZ 85258. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to The Board of Visitors, the Pinewood Fire Department or St. Vincent De Paul, all charities near and dear to his heart.
