John David Shultz Enters Chapter Eternal

John was born in Hollywood, CA to Jane Taylor Shultz and Edward Patterson Shultz on October 9, 1939. He grew up in Los Angeles, San Marino, and San Diego.He graduated from La Jolla High School in 1957. From there he went to the University of Arizona, joining Sigma Chi fraternity. Upon graduation he came back to California to attend law school at Boalt Hall, UC Berkeley. While there he met his future wife, Joanne. John and Joanne got married in 1968 and shortly thereafter got into their little VW bug and drove across the country to New York City where John worked as a lawyer for Cadwalader, Wickersham, and Taft. Their two sons, David Taylor Shultz and Steven Matthew Shultz were born in New York City. California work and family called and the family moved back home in 1977. 

John worked first at Lawler, Felix, and Hall and ended his career as a partner at Morgan, Lewis, and Bockius in 2004. John was a member of the bars of both New York and California.Upon his retirement John’s love of sailing became his primary joy. He loved his sailboat Prelude and the Los Angeles Yacht Club. John and Joanne loved to travel and were fortunate to see many beautiful places in the USA and abroad.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Jane and Pat. He is survived by his wife, Joanne; his 2 sons, David and Steven (Kate); and his 4 darling grandchildren, Otto, August, Hamish, and Elsie. He is also survived by his brothers, Steve and Ted and his nephew, John Edward.Special thanks go to the compassionate and loving care he received at Belmont Village and through One Heart Hospice.A service for John will be held at 2:00 on Saturday, October 5, 2024 at St. Francis Episcopal Church in Palos Verdes Estates. All are welcome to attend a reception following the service in the church Parish Hall.
