Brother Larry Benson Enters Chapter Eternal

Brother Larry S/ Benson, Beta Phi ’71, a Phoenix area homebuilder, died Feb. 15, 2016, at his home. He was 67.

A White Rose Ceremony and a Celebration of Life will take place in the Trophy Room Restaurant at 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 20 at the Karsten Golf Course at 1125 E. Rio Salado Pkwy in Tempe.

He was born Oct. 31, 1948 in Phoenix. He graduated with honors as a student-athlete at Camelback High School. He enrolled in 1967 at the University of Arizona, where he pledged Sigma Chi. He played baseball and majored in civil engineering and economics.

 He met his wife, Sharon, on a blind date in 1968, and they were married on Aug. 28, 1971, and raised their four children in Mesa in a home that he built. He building homes throughout the valley and Orange County, California for more than 40 years,

Brother Benson an array of leadership positions in companies including Marlborough Development Corp., Wimberly-Benson Development, and Geoffrey H. Edmunds & Associates. During his career, he also volunteered his service to the home building community as the chairman of the Home Builders Association of Central Arizona, as a representative to the National Association of Home Builders, and later was made an HBACA honorary life.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by children Timothy, Jeffrey, Sarah and Daniel; and his siblings Grant Hornbeak, Jerry Benson, Janalyn Paige, and George Benson.
