Brother George E. Greene, ’50, Enters Eternal Chapel

Brother George E. Greene, Beta Phi ’50, a three-time basketball letterman at the UA and a longtime high school principal in Independence, Missouri, died January 20, 2017 at the age of 79.

“He was truly one of the really good guys in the house and every one called him a friend,” Brother Jack McDuff said. “He will be missed.”

Brother Greene grew up in Phoenix and played for the Wildcats in the late 1940s with Brothers Bruce Larson and Roger Johnson. He served as teacher, basketball coach and principal at William Chrisman High School in Independence.

“Thank you Mr. Greene ,,, for your leadership, understanding, guidance and respect for Independence youth helped mold us into good people,” one of his former students said. Another wrote, “Mr. Greene is, was and always will be the most awesome principal and man I have ever had the blessing to have in my Life. He always had a smile for students.”

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Lois, son Ken, daughter Julie, seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Services were held Jan. 28, 2017.
